Pontypridd group plans BID for town centre

Businesses in Pontypridd south Wales are exploring the opportunity of developing a new business-led initiative to improve the town centre.

A steering group made up from a variety of business representatives has recently been established to lead the process and look at the options for creating a Business Improvement District (BID). See https://pontybid.wordpress.com/

The Welsh government is funding BID feasibility studies across Wales.

Welsh Liberal Democrat Councillor Mike Powell is far from convinced that this is what the town needs. “This scheme was originally set up in 2005, and since then only two towns have taken it up – Swansea in 2006 and Merthyr last year. The evidence as to its effectiveness or otherwise is mainly anecdotal.” http://pontylibdems.org.uk/en/article/2013/0746226/ponty-traders-to-be-asked-to-stump-up-more-money-to-improve-town
