Anna Minton’s critique of Business Improvement Districts

Anna Minton’s 2009 book Ground Control: Fear and happiness in the twenty-first century city, dedicates a chapter to Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) and is one of the few books taking a critical look at the subject.

Much of the chapter in the book was drawn from her 2006 publication What kind of world are we building? The privatisation of public space written for the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors. The full text of the document is available on Anna Minton’s website as a .pdf file.
